Thanks Brian!
I do try to do this daily and I can really tell when I'm not breathing enough during the day. I like the Zen Master's quote at the end.
Great post.

Great reminder to set the goal to take more time off. I have a tendency to get stuck while only taking 2-3 days off per month with a vacation lasting only 5 days in order to keep the job. No one to delegate to but no one said I can't start looking for employers or circumstances that appreciate a balance in their executives' lives to create motivated and "fresh" team leaders. Thanks Brian.

I believe delegation is the only true way of taking time off from work a true reality. If you surround yourself with good people that you can trust and empower them to make decisions then taking “real” time off from work can be a reality. I think many executives are to busy fishing and do not teach their team to fish for themselves. Sharing your power and your responsibilities not only makes you a better boss but also more efficient. If you continue to live in fear of your job and fear of losing your job, then you will continue to major in minor things and forever be stuck running on the treadmill of life.

Brian, Nice job on this commentary regarding life balance. Retirement is being redefined by many - some by choice in a empowering way and some not by choice but by financial need. It's a cultural shift that we can learn to appreciate and enjoy. "Live Long and Prosper"

First off, happy birthday Brian. Thanks for the new entry - all good stuff and I will spend more time with it this week.

My one immediate response, to the exercise of taking two minutes and writing down your purpose: I'm going to set aside those two minutes, and much more, to answer that question. It's one of those questions that in my experience leads you to the abyss before there's any clarity. I'd love to share with the blog once I have an answer, and I'd love to hear other people's answers. Thanks for the hard question, and the irony behind the notion that one can answer it in two minutes.

Blessings as you turn fifty. And here's to the next fifty.
